M any TV shows have grown to be popular, not because of plots or story arcs, but because of the amazing special effects and direction. The best battle scenes in shows have all of us in amazement. However, this does not mean that some shows did not win our hearts with the art of storytelling. They have been a popular choice over movies as shows tend to slowly build up the plot filled with suspense, ending each episode with a cliffhanger. The season finale is always full of suspense with an amazing climax that leaves people talking about them for years to come making them a show that has to be rewatched multiple times.

Battling the Silence

Show: “Game of Thrones”

Season 7, Episode 2

This might not have been the show’s first battle scene, but it is definitely one of the best. Greyjoys ambush on Yara's fleet in the middle of the night very quickly spirals into brutality and fires everywhere. Not only were the heroes in this battle scene captured or killed, but many of the ships were also sunk as they tried to flee. The season continued to highlight the intensity of the villain that was introduced.

Destruction Of The Resurrection Ship

Show: “Battlestar Galactica”

Season 2, Episode 12

In this popular science fiction show, Cylons can shift their consciousness to a new body in the resurrection ship within range. In this season, the colonial fleet decides to take down a resurrection ship that was a victory in the battle against Cylons. The scene of battle was filmed based on the inspiration of when the Brits crashed a ship into a nazi fortress. The show is filmed in a documentary style making it look very real with small subtle details that only made everything more realistic.

Battle of Okinawa

Show: “The Pacific”

Part 9

Steven Spielberg directed this HBO show as a follow-up on Band of Brothers. He wanted to bring a new take to generally romanticized war scenes by showing the viewers the truth behind the war. The scene was based on his uncle and father’s experience in the war by showing the marines barely grasping to the humanity within while having to fight against those who were ready to die in battle. The grimness of war left everyone watching in shock with eyes peeled wondering if the characters in battle ever truly leave the war in the past and move on with their lives after returning to civilization.

Siege of Paris

Show: “Vikings”

Season 3, Episode 8

The episode showed viewers a new perspective about war tactics used during the medieval period. The episode showed the main characters trying to overcome their enemies by scaling up walls to get to them. This was particularly hard to do as they were at a disadvantage where the ladders were being set on fire, being pushed off the wall causing many people to be crushed, and not to mention how boiled liquids were poured over the people climbing up the walls.

The characters who managed to scale the wall successfully were met with a huge number of people, easily making them outnumbered. This led to many of the characters that were meant to climb hide in fear from the enemy while some tried to break through the doors. This episode ended with the Vikings defeated with many dead.

Kandahar Flashback

Show: “The Punisher”

Season 1, Episode 3

A show based on an ex-marine will naturally have many battle and fight scenes that people will remember. The first season of The Punisher was focused around flashbacks of the main character Frank castle being deployed into the epicenter of war as a marine. We see him as a warrior that is terrified to his core while fighting using the adrenaline rush that comes from working on years of pure instinct and training. Not only do we get to see Frank deal with the horror that is war, but we also see the humanity in him as he slowly becomes the man known as The Punisher because of experiencing violence while trying to do the right thing easily making it one of the best battle scenes in shows so far. While there are many shows and movies to look forward to in the coming year, going back to watch these amazing shows can also result in a great time!
